Pembroke triple murder suspect appears in court

Christian “Kit” Martin, the former Army major accused in the 2015 Pembroke triple murder of three neighbors, appeared in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning to discuss evidence and set an adversarial bond hearing.

Martin appeared with defense attorney Tom Griffiths, who requested the bond hearing be set to come to some sort of agreement on bond, as his client is currently being held with no bond.

Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Prather informed the court that his office intends to give more evidence, including grand jury interviews, over to the defense today.

Judge John Atkins set the bond hearing for October 16, which is when they will also take up other matters as needed.

Martin is charged for three counts of murder, arson, attempted arson, first-degree burglary and three counts of tampering with physical evidence. The charges are in relation events that occurred on November 18, 2015, in which Calvin Phillips was found shot to death in his home located on South Main Street in Pembroke. The bodies of Pamela Phillips and their neighbor, Edward Dansereau were found a few miles away in a corn field near Rosetown Road in a burned up car owned by Mrs. Phillips.

Martin had moved to North Carolina since 2015 and he had been working as a pilot for PSA Airlines, a subsidiary of American Airlines.  Martin could face the death penalty, if he is convicted.
