Trailer involved in fatal Clarksville hit and run located in Muhlenberg County

The driver and trailer thought to be involved in the hit and run death of a Clarksville Street Department employee Tuesday morning was located several hours later in Muhlenberg County.

Clarksville police say the employee who was in his 30’s was working at the corner of Riverside Drive and College Street when he was struck by a tractor-trailer turning from Riverside Drive onto College Street just before 10:45 a.m.  The city employee died at the scene and his name has not been released.

The driver of the tractor-trailer kept going and police say the driver and trailer was located Tuesday night in Beechmont. A news release says an inspection determined the trailer was involved in the fatal crash.

Kentucky State Police and Clarksville Police Department worked together to secure search warrants for the trailer that enabled law enforcement to bring it to Tennessee for processing by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Police were working to set up an interview with the driver and have not released that person’s name. Public Information Officer Jim Knoll says the investigation is in its infancy and says releasing additional information tied to the case or making conclusions would be premature and potentially compromise the case.
