Hopkinsville police charged a woman with criminal child abuse Saturday night, following an investigation on Faulkner Street.
Officers were notified of a disturbance at the home in the 400 block of Faulkner just after 9 p.m. and found 44-year old Tamerika Dodson of Hopkinsville and her 3-year old grandson on the front porch, according to the police report, which says she was manifestly under the influence of alcohol and unable to answer simple questions.
Police say there were beer cans throughout the immediate area, an infestation of cockroaches inside the home, and a plastic toilet the child had been using in a hallway was almost full of urine and appeared to have not been cleaned or emptied for an extended period of time.
The child had a mark on his head and Dodson could not explain where it came from, according to the report.
Police say Dodson was in no condition to assist the child or to call for help, if there had been a need.
She was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal child abuse and public intoxication.
