HPD among agencies increasing patrols Labor Day weekend

Multiple law enforcement agencies will be out in force on Labor Day weekend to help keep the roadways safe, and the Hopkinsville Police Department will be among them.

Sgt. Rico Rodriguez says you can expect to see increased patrols in the evening hours, as they look to removing those driving impaired or in an unsafe manner.

He says Kentucky leads the pack in collisions that involve impaired drivers, and officers intend to do their best to make the roads safer for everyone and hopefully save lives.

There were 4,700 total wrecks involving alcohol in Kentucky last year, resulting in more than 2,400 injuries and 87 fatalities. Nationally, someone does from an alcohol-related crash every 50 minutes.  Kentucky State Police, and other local agencies, are also taking part in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

KSP will conduct statewide traffic safety checkpoints in an effort to enforce all traffic laws of the Commonwealth.
