The ribbon was cut and the new Hopkinsville Community College Emerging Technologies building was officially opened to the public Thursday afternoon with a ceremony.
The 45,000 square foot facility located near the North Drive entrance for the college campus welcomed a very large crowd of curious eyes, all eager to see the state-of-the-art building that’s been years in the making. HCC President and CEO Dr. Alissa Young encouraged the attendees to maintain their energy for the college, because great things are happening there.
Governor Steve Beshear, whose administration started the BuildSmart initiative from which a good portion of the funding came from for construction, says strong public education is of vital importance to the Commonwealth.
Eston Glover, who co-chaired the fundraising campaign, says that this wouldn’t have been possible without partnerships through the state and community.
Approximately $3.7 million was raised through donations from businesses, the City of Hopkinsville and Christian Fiscal Court, and individual donors to match the state funding. Attendees were able to take tours and admire the new classrooms spaces, large study areas, lecture halls and more.
