Thirty-eight dogs were seized from a residence in Trigg County Wednesday and a woman has been charged with multiple counts of cruelty to animals.
The dogs were taken to the Christian County Animal Shelter, where the majority of them will be immediately up for adoption–46 dogs in total were seized as part of the case.
Trigg County Animal Control Officer Torie Davis tells WHOP News that she had received an anonymous tip two weeks ago that animals were living in deplorable conditions at a residence. She says that upon arrival, she discovered multiple canines living in poor conditions and with inadequate food and water.
She says many of the dogs were used for breeding purposes and the previous owner has been cooperative and released the dogs to the shelter.
Davis urges citizens to consider adopting one of the dogs, if they are able, or donating food or other items to the animal shelter for their care.
The owner, who was identified by the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department as Linda Compton of Trigg County, is facing 43 charges of second-degree cruelty to animals, as well as violations of rabies vaccination requirements. Several of the dogs tested positive for heart worms.
Photos of the dogs will go up on the Christian County Animal Shelter Facebook page as they are processed and put up for adoption.
