Suspect arrested for allegedly strangling woman

A man was arrested late Sunday night after he allegedly strangled a woman during a disturbance at an Old Clarksville Pike residence.

The victim told officers that 24-year old Cameron Merritt of Hopkinsville wrapped his hands around her throat and began choking her outside of the home. She begged for her life and was able to get away to run into a bedroom, where she locked the door and called 911.

An arrest citation says Merritt broke a picture frame and banged on the walls and door until police arrived and placed him under arrest. Police say the victim had redness and marks on her throat consistent with being choked.

Merritt was charged with first-degree strangulation and possession of marijuana.
