Suspect arrested for assault, unlawful imprisonment

A man who allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and held her against her will was arrested early Friday morning on multiple charges.

Someone called ECC a few minutes before 1:30 a.m. and said there was an ongoing disturbance between a man and woman in an apartment in the 700 block of Denzil Drive and that it had lasted for a few hours.

An arrest citation says 23-year old Stephane Watson of Hopkinsville fled out the back door of the residence as officers arrived.

The victim told officers that she and Watson had been in an argument that became physical when he pushed her to the ground. Watson allegedly slammed the door when she tried to leave and took her phone when she attempted to call for help.

The report says he grabbed the woman around her neck and applied pressure when she attempted to leave a second time, causing minor injuries. She refused a trip to the hospital after EMS was called.

Police located Watson in the area of Pardue Lane and the rail-trail and a K9 helped take him into custody as he attempted to get away. He had to be treated at Jennie Stuart Medical Center and was arrested for fourth-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment and first-degree fleeing or evading police.
