Gov. Matt Bevin calls Lt. Gov. lawsuit a moot point, distraction

Governor Matt Bevin is ready to welcome President Trump to Louisville Wednesday and says there’s no legal standing for a lawsuit filed against his administration by the lieutenant governor.

Speaking to WHOP News Tuesday morning, Gov. Bevin said Steve Knipper violated his administration’s rule against appointed employees running for elected office when he filed for secretary of state in January and says Knipper won’t be getting his job as Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton’s chief of staff back.

Bevin calls the lawsuit to restore the job of Knipper and another staffer a moot point and a distraction.

Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd on Monday asked both parties to settle the matter outside of court, if possible.

Meanwhile, President Trump will speak Wednesday at the AMVETS Convention in Louisville before making a stop at a private fundraiser for Governor Bevin.

The governor says he supports President Trump and believes that’s one of many areas where he and Democratic opponent Andy Beshear are different.
