Christian County Complete Count Committee preparing for 2020 Census

While the nation is preparing for the 2020 Census, local efforts are gearing up to make sure more people are being accurately counted than ever before.

A meeting of the Christian County Complete Count Committee took place Tuesday afternoon, to discuss outreach efforts, learn about the logistics of the census and brainstorm about the process.  Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director Brooke Jung and Marketing and Events Coordinator Chris Jung are the co-chairs of the committee that’s focused on getting the word out about the census.

The group heard an update from U.S. Census Bureau Partnership Specialist Kisha Mische, who says that people will soon see census workers in the neighborhoods, verifying addresses.

She emphasized the fact that the census is completely confidential, the bureau has never had a data breach, and all date collected is used only for statistics.

The data generated by the census impacts many things, including how much federal grant funding a community receives, developing assistance programs, distributing medical research, decision making on all levels of government and much more.

Pennyrile Area Development District Executive Director Jason Vincent says that for each person not accurately counted, the community misses out on much needed funding.

The group plans to continue meeting as the census draws closer—it will take place in 2020, beginning in mid-March, when one can expect a notice in the mail.  Citizens will be able to reply by mail, but for the first time, responses can also be made online.
