Long time Caldwell County head coach David Barnes passed away Saturday at the age of 59. Barnes had been battling Parkinson’s disease since 2017 and collapsed in the press box Friday night at Caldwell County while watching his team in scrimmage games. Barnes had also worked as Caldwell County’s athletics director.
Barnes was a former player at Caldwell County and had coached the Tigers since 2006. Before that, he was the longtime head coach at Daviess County. Barnes’ teams won 110 games in 13 seasons at Caldwell County, with the 2012 Tiger team falling to Newport Central Catholic in the Class 2-A finals.
Funeral arrangements for Coach David Barnes have yet to be announced. The Tigers are scheduled to open the 2019 football season next Friday night hosting Christian County.
