Hopkinsville CC, Madisonville CC team up for surgical technology program

Hopkinsville Community College and Madisonville Community College are teaming up to offer a surgical technology program to area students, and the agreement was signed Tuesday.

The partnership will bring an associate degree opportunity in applied science and students will be able to complete all of the surgical technology program requirements at either institution.  HCC President Dr. Alissa Young says this will benefit not only the students who will earning the degrees and entering the workforce, but also the future of healthcare in the Commonwealth.

Madisonville Community College has offered a surgical technology program since 1979, and MCC President and CEO Cindy Kelley says they’ve graduated hundreds of students who have gone on to assist in surgeries and other aspects of the medical field.

The program will be led by Mr. Jeff Bidwell, an accomplished educator in the field, who will act as surgical first assistant and program director. Faculty from Madisonville will staff the courses taught on campus at Hopkinsville.  The first class begins Monday with several students already enrolled—the program will be held in the new Emerging Technology building on campus.
