CASA welcomes three more advocates into the program

Children involved in the court system in Christian County have even more people in their corner, following the swearing in of three more CASA advocates Tuesday morning in Family Court.

CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, welcomed three new volunteers to the program—Amy Hughes, Natasha Francis and Carol Daniel—who each were sworn in by Family Court Judge Jason Fleming.  They will begin working with children involved in dependency, abuse or neglect cases by being with them through the entire process and advocating for what each child needs to be happy and healthy.

Hughes says she’s eager to begin working to help keep families together and give the children a voice.

Francis says she has a volunteer spirit and is ready to help those in need.

Daniel urges anyone interested to get involved in the CASA program, as it is truly worthwhile to make sure that the children have somebody looking out for them.

Judge Fleming welcomed them each to the program, saying that their time and dedication will likely not only improve the livelihood of the kids involved in the system, but save lives.

An advocate is appointed by a judge to offer support to a child that is involved in the court system until they find a permanent home. Executive Director Virginia Erxleben says they are looking for more volunteer advocates and anyone interested can begin the application process by calling her at 270-887-4024.
