Christian County School Board to hold hearing on proposed tax increase

There will be a tax levy hearing before Thursday night’s Christian County Board of Education meeting, as members are likely to consider a proposed increase to the property tax rate.

The proposed increase would take the rate on real and personal property from 42.8 to 44 cents—creating an extra 4 percent in new revenue.

If approved, the new rate would create an estimated $16.7 million in revenues for the district in the current fiscal year.

The increase would mean an extra $12 on the annual property tax bill for the owner of a $100,000 home.

The tax levy hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the regular school board meeting is set for 6 p.m.

Public comments on the proposed tax hike will be received during the hearing.
