Todd County Clerk Leslie Cunningham passes away

Todd County Clerk Leslie Cunningham died Saturday following a battle with cancer.

Cunningham had worked at the clerk’s office for 13 years when she ran successful campaigns in last year’s Democratic primary and general election.

She was a lifelong Todd County resident, a 1988 graduate of Todd County Central High School and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Months before she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Cunningham talked about how Todd County supported her when she lost most of her possessions several years ago in a house fire.

During last year’s election season, Cunningham said she never wanted to do anything other than serve the citizens of Todd County at the clerk’s office.

Cunningham had only served about four months of her first term before learning of her diagnosis and continued working as long and as often as she could, including  overseeing the May primary election.

She attended the final Todd Fiscal Court meeting of May and thanked magistrates and the community for the support she had received in her fight with cancer.

Cunningham is survived by her husband and three children.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Todd County Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Cunningham was 48 years old.
