Grand jury indicts two for child abuse

A Christian County Grand Jury returned two indictments against local women Friday for criminal child abuse charges.

The grand jury indicted 23-year old Ashli Cussins of Oak Grove on two counts of second-criminal child abuse against a child under 12 years of age. She is alleged to have failed to provide proper nutrition, medical care and immunizations to her 6-month old daughter, who had only gained six ounces since birth. It further says that her 18-month old child was found to be “hungry, underweight and unable to walk.”  The original arrest warrant states that since being out of her custody, both children have gained weight and the oldest child is now walking.

Indicted for first-degree child abuse is 44-year old Latarrah Burton of Oak Grove, who is alleged to have grabbed the male victim under 12 years of age around the neck with both hands in May and threw him to ground aggressively. Another individual intervened once the victim was on the ground.

Indicted for first-degree wanton endangerment are both 28-year old Darrell Majors of Hopkinsville and 35-year old Desmond Wilford of Oak Grove. The indictment alleges that both men brandished firearms during an argument at Waffle House on Fort Campbell Boulevard in June.  Wilford was additionally indicted for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
