Major propane leak causes evacuations near Trenton

A large propane leak caused evacuations Wednesday night near Trenton.

It happened about 7:30 p.m. when the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department and Todd County Emergency Management responded to 2470 Cemetery Road and found a 2,500 gallon tank surrounded by a vapor cloud.

All residents within 1,000 feet were evacuated, which Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says equaled about 10 people.

The leak was brought under control just before midnight after approximately 1,000 gallons of liquid propane had escaped.

Smith says the leak was caused when a line used to refill smaller tanks was broken—possibly by a weed eater.
