AT&T expands Hopkinsville service with tower on Ovil Road

AT&T has added a new cell tower to its 4G LTE Network in Hopkinsville, so customers on Ovil Road and surrounding areas could see faster, more reliable wireless service.

According to a news release, the tower will help provide better network connectivity while streaming videos, sharing on social media or texting. The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has nearly 1.5 million strand miles of fiber optics covering Kentucky.

State Senator Whitney Westerfield of Christian County is quoted as saying, “The continued investment in wireless high-speed internet access is sure to benefit local families and businesses counting on that service.”

AT&T Regional Director Hank Mangeot says, “We’re committed to providing our customers fast, reliable, highly secure connectivity and the network expansion in Hopkinsville is a result of that commitment.”

The expansion also paves the way for the company’s future ‘5G’ network technology. This added coverage will also benefit public safety and first responders on FirstNet, public safety’s dedicated communications platform. FirstNet is being built with AT&T in a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority.
