Remember school zone safety as new year begins Wednesday

Christian, Todd, Trigg, Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Montgomery County public schools begin their new year Wednesday morning and area motorists are reminded to slow down and be on the lookout for buses.

Kentucky State Trooper Corey King says it’s been a couple months since motorists have had to think about school traffic during their morning commute, so be sure to make the extra effort these first few days to keep everyone safe.

He says police agencies across Kentucky will be having heavy patrols in school zones being sure everyone is observing the reduced speed limits.

School buses will be loading in the morning and unloading in the afternoon and Trooper King says it can be deadly when motorists fail to stop when the flashing red lights are on and the stop sign is out.

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School also opens Wednsday, Fort Campbell schools began its school year Monday, Heritage Christian Academy will open Thursday and University Heights Academy on Tuesday of next week.
