Major League Baseball handed down eight suspensions in the wake of Tuesday’s on-field brawl between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. Pittsburgh reliever Keone Kela, who started the hostilities by throwing near Derek Dietrich’s head in the late innings, received a 10-game ban.
Reds pitcher Amir Garrett got eight games for throwing the first punches while charging the Pittsburgh dugout. Yasiel Puig, since traded from Cincinnati to Cleveland, was handed a three-game suspension. All six players – three from each team – who received discipline will appeal and can play until the process has finished.
Additionally, Reds manager David Bell was suspended six games and
Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle was penalized two games.
