Guthrie welcomes K9 to force

The Guthrie Police Department is welcoming K9 Q-ba to its force.

Q-ba is a Belgian Malinois and is certified to detect five different narcotics and marijuana, according to Chief Dean Blumel.

Sgt. Kevin Saunders is his handler and the chief says they’re excited about the addition.

The purchase of the dog was made possible exclusively through private donations from Novelis, Paul Banks, Debby Taylor, A Team Concrete’s Victor Jurdak, Favorite Lotto’s Andy Wadhwa, Todd Thomas and  Mike Smith. Chief Blumel also thanked Phil Holloway of PTL for donating the dog box for Q-ba to ride inside.

The chief says Q-ba will continue training in the future to add additional certifications in the future.

There are now two K9 units in Todd County, with the sheriff’s department having the other.
