New Era to be delivered by USPS later this month

The Kentucky New Era will be delivered to all subscribers through the U.S. Postal Service beginning later this month.

The change will be implemented on or before Tuesday, August 13, according to an article in Thursday’s paper, which says the same-day delivery process will return the New Era to an afternoon distribution cycle.

The story notes the New Era published as an afternoon paper until switching to morning delivery in 2011.

Using the postal service means there will be combined editions published prior to major holidays when the mail isn’t delivered. Officials at the paper say the mail distribution should eliminate most issues with missed or late deliveries and wet newspapers.

The article praises the New Era’s roster of route carriers for their dedication, but says there are more open routes than there are applicants to fill them.
