‘Mrs. Pickle’ to help students gear up for new school year

The new school year is fast approaching, which means Mrs. Pickle is back to help students prepare for the upcoming year with a pickle-themed party.

The pickle picnic, sponsored by the Christian County Literacy Council, will take place Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the community room of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library. Carolyn Haddock, also known as Mrs. Pickle, says students pre-school age through sixth grade are welcome to participate, and they’ll talk about ways to have a good school year, do giveaways and have pickle themed snacks.

She says she gained the Pickle persona after going to a training many years ago when she worked at Morningside Elementary, and at the training there was a book that showcased how to use pickles for guidance counseling. She says at first she thought kids would find it too silly, but it was actually a hit—and she’s been using pickles to counsel students ever since.

She says the event is free to attend but she does ask for people to RSVP so they can know how many to prepare for. To reserve a place, call 270-962-7114. Haddock says that although the famous pickle-mobile is gone, there will still be plenty of pickle paraphernalia on hand at the event.
