Excessive Heat Warning continues through weekend

Those with outdoor plans this weekend will want to remember the Excessive Heat Warning for all of western Kentucky through 7 p.m. Sunday.

Temperatures will max out in the lower to mid-90’s, but the humidity will create heat index values of 105 to 110 during the hottest part of the day.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says, “The dangerous heat and humidity could quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke if precautions are not taken. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.”

The cumulative effect of several days of heat can also take its toll, with forecasters adding that the effects will worsen with each successive day of the heat and humidity.

Anyone spending time outdoors should wear light clothing, drink plenty of fluids and take breaks as often as possible in the shade or in an air-conditioned building.

Never leave a child or pet in a vehicle that’s not running and be sure outdoor pets have water and shelter that’s in the shade.

While the Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for western Kentucky, middle Tennessee is under a Heat Advisory.
