Sonny Gray gave the Cincinnati Reds a quality start, but the offense lagged in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Reds return to Great American Ballpark to open a series with the St. Louis Cardinals this evening, with pregame at 5:40 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
Elsewhere in the National League: Paul Goldschmidt smacked a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the St. Louis Cardinals past the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 at Busch Stadium.
The Atlanta Braves scored twice in the eighth and ninth, but fell short in a 5-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves are home for the first time since the All Star Break opening a weekend series with the Washington Nationals this evening.
The Chicago Cubs are off today before hosting the San Diego Padres beginning tomorrow at Wrigley Field.
