The hottest weather the area has experienced this summer has settled into western Kentucky and an Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect through 7 p.m. Sunday.
High temperatures will be in the 90’s and the humidity will make it feel like 105 to 110 degrees.
The National Weather Service is reminding those working outdoors to stay hydrated and to take breaks in the shade or in an air conditioned building as often as possible.
Officials say look before you lock—never leave children or pets in an unattended vehicle—as temperatures inside can become deadly in only a few minutes.
Check up on the elderly, sick and those without air conditioning and be sure outdoor pets have a shelter to take refuge from the sun and a constant supply of water.
Forecasters say heat is typically a leading cause of weather-related fatalities across the country each year.
