Report: Man drove drunk with child in car, led officer on pursuit

A man with young child in his vehicle was arrested for DUI, fleeing or evading police and other charges Sunday morning.

A Hopkinsville police officer attempted to stop 26-year old Hassan Stewart of Hopkinsville just after 4 a.m. after he allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic and ran a stop sign at East Seventh and South Campbell Street. An arrest citation says Stewart continued driving, after the officer turned on his lights and siren and he disregarded another stop sign at Campbell and Fourth.

He eventually stopped at Thompson and East Second Street, where he admitted to having a beer prior to driving. The report says two open alcohol containers were located in the vehicle and that Stewart registered a blood alcohol content of .155—nearly twice the legal limit.

Two other adults and a small child were also in the vehicle and police say the child was not in a proper seat.

Stewart was arrested and charged with reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, DUI, possession of an open alcohol container and failure to use a child restraint device.
