Tropical storm remnants could bring heavy rain to region

The remnants of Tropical Storm Barry could bring heavy rain to western Kentucky and middle Tennessee.

Meteorologist Chris Noles of the National Weather Service in Paducah says models are beginning to converge on a path that would bring Barry over the lower Mississippi River Valley region toward our area late Sunday through Tuesday.

Several inches of rain will be possible somewhere in the region Monday and Tuesday, but the exact track of Barry will determine where the highest amounts will fall.

Thunderstorms will also be possible, but a major outbreak of severe weather is not anticipated.

Tropical systems do sometimes spin up weak and short-lived tornadoes.

Heat and humidity will return after Barry leaves, with heat index values expected to reach 100 degrees during the middle of next week.
