Fort Campbell soldier killed in rappelling accident in Alabama

A Fort Campbell soldier was killed Saturday in a rappelling accident in Alabama.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press quotes Jackson County, Alabama officials as saying 20-year old Phillip Whitehead was rappelling into a cave at Stephens Gap-Callahan Preserve when an equipment malfunction occurred and he fell close to 100 feet.

It was the first time Whitehead had rappelled in that location and he was with a friend who had been there before.

It was the second fatal accident at that location this year.
