Trial that was set to begin July 29 for Sergio Del Angel, the man accused in the shooting death of Kristofer Armstrong on Kenwood Drive in May of 2017, was postponed Wednesday morning.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling requested the continuance, telling Judge John Atkins he needs to conduct more interviews and needs time to have additional DNA testing conducted on a gun that was recovered in the case.
Boling also notified the court that an eyewitness recently contacted him to say she could no longer positively identify Del Angel as the gunman.
David Rye represents Del Angel and did not object to the continuance, saying the remaining interviews are very important to the case.
Judge Atkins set a new trial date of February 17, 2020.
Hopkinsville police allege Del Angel shot Armstrong on the front porch of his Kenwood Drive home and he’s charged with first-degree murder.
