Christian Fiscal Court heard a report on the Sportsplex and a progress update on the Ag. expo center project during its first meeting of July Tuesday morning.

The Ag. expo multi-use center will be built on the extension office campus on Pembroke Road and Jay Stone says dirt work should begin soon after all of the paperwork and plans are approved.

Chris Jung is the marketing and events coordinator for the Sportsplex and says the facility has exceeded expectations in the first six months it’s been open.

The new Holiday Inn in front of the Sportsplex and James E. Bruce Convention Center should open in December and Jung believes that will help recruit additional events and attractions.

In other action, magistrates approved a resolution that increases the number of Airport Board members from six to 10. Hopkinsville City Council will need to approve the measure to make it official.

Three residents of the Woodbine Street area spoke during public comments and asked for an increased law enforcement presence there and for a crackdown on speeders.

Retired Christian County Attorney Mike Foster was reappointed to the South West Kentucky Economic Development Council.
