KSP gives Trooper Island camp experience to disadvantaged youth

Kids from across Kentucky have been at Dale Hollow Lake this summer for the Trooper Island camp—a program offered by state police that enriches the lives of the youths and troopers.

Trooper Corey King says Trooper Island began about 60 years ago and it gives children between the ages of 10 and 12 a positive experience with law enforcement.

He says the camp also gives many children their first experience to connect with nature.

It’s also a good experience for troopers who facilitate the program, as they get to step away from stressful and traumatic situations for a few days and decompress at the camp.

Approximately 800 kids participate in the camp this year and youths from the Madisonville and Mayfield posts will be there next week.
