Sign-ups for Hopkinsville’s first half marathon and 5K have surpassed 200 entries and there’s still time to register before race day on September 28.
The inaugural event continues to evolve and will now have different challenges, including the Double Dare Challenge and the Industry Challenge. Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says he expects they’ll have well over 1,000 participants by the time race day gets underway and people are still more than welcome to sign-up.
He says people can sign-up online—there are still reduced prices available for each race for those who register in advance.
Brockman says all money raised will go to benefit the United Way of the Pennyrile and from there, those in need in the community.
Finishers of both races will receive a shirt, as well as respective half-marathon or 5K medals—the starting line for both races will be located at 1001 S. Main Street, in front of the historic Ferrell’s Hamburgers. With an 18-minute-per-mile time limit, both walkers and runners are welcome.
The Industry Challenge allows local and regional businesses to register as relay teams. Not only will the race be underway, but there will be a festival in downtown Hopkinsville the coincides with the event. There will also be a kickoff race expo at the Hopkinsville Sportsplex the day before the race, where there will be booths, informative speeches and packet pick-up.
