Two people were arrested for burglary at a vacant Hopkinsville home Tuesday morning and one had police badges in his possession.
Hopkinsville police were called to 216 Dell Drive a few minutes after 10 a.m. after a witness who was checking on the home heard people inside talking. Officers announced they were going to deploy a K9 and that’s when 51-year old Steven Haas of Hopkinsville began climbing out of a window, according to an arrest citation, which says 44-year old Shannon Davenport of Pembroke was arrested at the front of the home.
A search of Haas’ person revealed four police badges in his front pants pocket—one of them for an HPD sergeant. He claimed he had taken them from inside the vacant home.
Both suspects were charged with second-degree burglary and both were served with warrants. Davenport was additionally charged with theft of identity for giving officers a name of a family member.
Police say Davenport admitted to doing drugs inside the vacant residence and drug paraphernalia was found inside.
