Country music artist Joe Diffie to headline Summer Salute

The City of Hopkinsville has announced that country music artist Joe Diffie will be the headliner for the fourth Summer Salute festival coming up in August.

According to a news release, Diffie will close out the festival, which is slated for August 23 and 24 in downtown Hopkinsville at a free concert to be held in front of the Christian County Justice Center on August 24. Diffie has delivered five Billboard Number 1 singles and has been a member of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry for 25 years while also being a former male vocalist of the Year.

Parks and Recreation Department Superintendent Tab Brockman is quoted as saying, “After we drew 25,000 people last year, we knew we had to keep the momentum going by securing a bona fide star, and that’s what we’ve done in Joe Diffie. He’s had a tremendous career in country music, and we could not be more excited about the energy he’s bring to our stage downtown.” Some of Diffie’s biggest hits in the 1990’s included “John Deere Green,” “Ships that Don’t Come In” and “Pickup Man.”

Opening for Diffie will be up-and-coming country singer and Kentucky native Walker Montgomery. On August 23, the Jimmy Church Band will take center stage with a huge performance to celebrate Jimmy Church’s 80th birthday. There will be kids rides, food and drink vendors, merchants, train rides and other free activities will be occurring throughout the weekend.
