Todd Fiscal Court voted during a special-called meeting Friday afternoon to purchase a ladder truck for the county’s volunteer fire departments.
Departments currently only have the capability to provide fire suppression at heights of up to 20 feet, but that will change with the purchase of a 1992 Spartan 104 foot aerial ladder fire truck from Command Fire Apparatus out of Landisville, Pennsylvania.
The truck will be stationed at Guthrie, as it became more of a necessity with the construction of the very large Novelis plant in that city.
Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith recently noted that it won’t just be Guthrie that benefits, as insurance ratings should improve across the county with the availability of a ladder truck.
Smith says staffing will be a cooperative effort between the fire departments of Guthrie, Elkton and Trenton along with any other interested departments and adds the truck will be available to serve all across the county when needed.
