Pembroke Baptist Church bringing fireworks display to community

For the first time in recent history, the City of Pembroke will have fireworks to celebrate Independence Day and the whole community is invited to attend.

The fireworks are being sponsored by Pembroke Baptist Church on July 3, but before they light up the sky, a block party will be held both on the campus of the church and the city park in Pembroke. Mayor Judy Peterson says the block party starts at 6 p.m. and will have a slew of fun activities and vendors for everyone to enjoy.

Once the sun goes down the fireworks will begin, with Peterson saying as far as she is aware, this is first time there will be fireworks in the city for people to enjoy. She says the church decided to do something to bring the community together that also coincided with the weekly educational summer program the church hosts for kids.

People are encouraged to bring their own blankets or chairs to the event, and Peterson says the best viewing spots will be at the city park or the church campus on South Main Street in Pembroke. For more information about the event, call the church at 270-475-4125.
