Severe thunderstorms and a possible tornado caused significant damage across the southern Pennyrile region Friday evening, but there were thankfully no injuries.

Multiple tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says the roof was blown off a house on Pierce Lane between Cox Mill and Newstead Road and there was damage to numerous other homes on the south end of the county.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Futrell says there were several trees blown down and a lot of traffic issues created by the weather in the city.

Trigg County Emergency Management Director David Bryant had received reports of multiple trees blown onto homes and other items tossed around by very strong winds.

At least two photos of what appeared to be a funnel cloud in the Trenton area made their way to WHOP news and officials at Todd County Dispatch reported significant damage to a home on Chester Stahl Road near Trenton and damage to another home in the Green Acres Subdivision in Guthrie.

Again, there were no reports of any injuries anywhere in the area.

Over 4,000 Pennyrile Electric members were without power at times and attendees at the Western Kentucky State Fair were forced to take cover.

A survey team from the National Weather Service in Paducah is expected to be in the area Saturday to determine if a tornado or straight-line winds caused area damage.
