Six students learn about local government with city internships

The City of Hopkinsville is celebrating their latest Summer in the City internship participants, who will soon finish their internship with $500 and letters of recommendation to show for their efforts.

According to a news release, the six interns all came from Hopkinsville High School this year and include Dakota Garner, Paige Jenkins, Yogianah McKnight, Tanishka Singh, Dustin Wilcox and Hayden Woosley. For three weeks, interns have undertaken various projects, developed computer and workplace skills, networked, and learned how municipal government works while exploring possible career paths. Upon successful completion of the program later this week, they will earn a $500 check and letter of recommendation.

Mayor Carter Hendricks says, “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed hosting this year’s Summer in the City interns. We hope they’ve had a wonderful experience and leave with a new understanding of city government and the workplace.”

Since its inception in 2007, 58 other Christian County youth have served as city interns, receiving workplace readiness skills while seeing various functions of municipal government at work.
