Clarksville Mayor chooses retiring HFD Chief to lead Fire Rescue

After announcing this week that he will retire, effective August 1, Hopkinsville Fire Department Chief Freddie Montgomery has been chosen to lead Clarksville Fire and Rescue.

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts announced Montgomery as his choice for the position on social media Wednesday, saying it follows a nationwide search for nominees.  The recommendation will go before Clarksville City Council for approval at a special called meeting on Thursday.  If approved, Montgomery would begin there on August 1.

Chief Montgomery leaves the Hopkinsville Fire Department after 25 years of service—he served as Fire Chief since 2014 and helping the department attain its best ranking ever among the top 2% nationally in fire suppression.

In 2015, he was named the Kentucky League of Cities Employee of the Year and he served as the second vice president for the Kentucky Fire Chief’s Association.
