State’s all time leading scorer & first Kentucky Mr. Basketball Coleman dies Sunday

Kentucky’s first Mr. Basketball, King Kelly Coleman died on Sunday at the age of 80 in Hazard. Coleman is the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky boys high school basketball history with 4,337 points and led Wayland High School to a third place finish in the 1956 Sweet Sixteen. His 185 points in three games are the most in Sweet 16 history along with a Sweet 16 record setting 68 point performance against Bell County in the third place game. Coleman’s personal best in his career was a 75 point, 41 rebound performance against Maytown.
