It was announced in February that BB&T banks were merging with SunTrust and the companies have announced a new name for their branches across the country.
Truist will be the new name for banks that had been BB&T or SunTrust all across the country after the $28 billion all stock deal becomes final, according to an email sent to bank customers.
That’s expected to happen later this year, pending shareholder and regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions.
Bank officials say everything will remain the same for BB&T customers for now and they will guide their customers through every step and any potential changes when the merger and name change become final.
It won’t be the first name change for many local customers of the banks. BB&T acquired what had been Area Bank in 2002. First City Bank of Hopkinsville merged with Area Bank two years prior to that in October of 2000.
