Action in the National League: The Miami Marlins avoided a sweep as they crushed the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 last night. The Redbirds open a series this evening in New York against the Mets.

The Chicago Cubs routed the Colorado Rockies 10-1 Wednesday in Denver. The Cubs move to Los Angeles to meet the Dodgers tonight with Jon Lester opposing Clayton Kershaw on the mound.

After getting hit by a pitch to start off the home half of the 11th, Austin Riley scored on an Ozzie Albies double to the right-center gap as the Atlanta Braves edged the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7. The Braves have won six-straight and are now alone atop the NL East. The series concludes this afternoon at Sun Trust Park.
