The Pennyrile Area Development District celebrated 50 years of service to the nine-county region at its annual dinner meeting Monday night.
The inaugural Pennyrile Regional Award of Excellence went to the four former PADD executive directors—the late John Adams, David Shore, Dan Bozarth and Chris Sutton. The award recognizes individuals, groups or entities that display a passion for regionalism.
Retired Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham served as the keynote speaker and said he intends to stand up against any potential movement to abolish area development districts in the Commonwealth.
The Lyon County native says the nine counties are stronger individually when they work together.
Christian County Judge-Executive Steve Tribble was recognized for 25 years of service on the PADD Board and Bart Frazier of Crittenden County for 20. Jill Collins, Melody Goodwin, Tom Sholar and Executive Director Jason Vincent were recognized for 15 years as PADD employees.
