A familiar face to Hopkinsville and former mayor will now serve as the Chairperson for the Murray State University Board of Regents.

Former Mayor Dan Kemp was elected to serve as chair during a board meeting Friday, according to WKMS in Murray, which says current Chair Susan Guess is stepping down from the position on June 30. Former state Senator Jerry Rhoads of Madisonville was elected to serve as vice chair.

Kemp served as Hopkinsville mayor from 2007 until 2014 before returning to a private law practice. According to the MSU Board of Regents website, Kemp has served on the Board of Governors of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Board of Directors of Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company of Kentucky, the Executive Board of the Kentucky League of Cities, the Board of Trustees of Jennie Stuart Medical Center, the Board of Directors of Pennyrile Area Development District and the boards of many other civic and charitable organizations.

He has been serving on the Board of Regents since 2014 and will now take the helm to lead the University to more success.
