A delegation from Hopkinsville was present in France for the 75th anniversary of D-Day, when American forces landed on the beaches of Normandy during World War II.
Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee Chair Lindsey Geraci spoke with WHOPS News at their time in Hopkinsville’s ‘sister city’, Carentan, France. She was able to lay a wreath on behalf of Hopkinsville during the D-Day Commemoration ceremony and says it was truly an honor and humbling to be able to do that.
The delegation has been able to take part in numerous ceremony, events and balls. She says they were able to witness 97-year old Word War II veteran Tom Rice paratroop into the same place he jumped into in 1944.
Geraci says the whole experience has been full of experiences they will never forget, and says it’s good to always remember the past so we are not doomed to repeat it.
The delegation also includes Christian Fiscal Court Magistrate Darrell Gustafson, Hopkinsville City Councilman Terry Parker, Champion of Fort Campbell Lana Bastin, Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Brooke Jung, City of Hopkinsville Events and Marketing Director Chris Jung and two high school students who hosted students from France in their home during that delegation’s visit in March.
