The Christian County Relay for Life may have had to move indoors due to the weather, but that didn’t stop hundreds of people from showing up to support those who are battling cancer and helping raise $101,231.
Relay for Life was inside the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds Convention Center Friday evening, which Relay Chair Pam Futrell says caused some challenges, but the amount of people who still came to the event was tremendous.
Team booths lined the walls of convention center, with sitting and other activities in the very center, so survivors could make their Victory Lap in the middle. People cheered, applauded and danced as they made their way around the lap.
Futrell says most of the $101,000 that was raised Friday night will stay in Christian County to help those who are fighting the affliction.
This year’s theme was “Relay Through the Decades” and teams and their booths were decorated in the get-up of different years, from the 20’s to now. Futrell says the most important aspect of the event is letting survivors, caretakers and those who are still fighting cancer that they are not alone.
