The woman accused in the shooting death of Amareya’ Freeman was arraigned in Christian District Court Friday morning.
Nineteen-year old Anshanique Leavell of Hopkinsville appeared before Judge Jamus Redd—a Trigg County District Judge who was standing in for Judge Foster Cotthoff—who entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf and told her what sentences the charges of murder and receiving stolen property could bring.
Leavell is currently being held in the Christian County Jail with no bond set, though Judge Redd told her he would set one soon. A preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday at 9 a.m.
As previously reported, the Hopkinsville Police Department responded Greenville Road just after midnight Friday morning and arrived on scene to find Amareya’ Freeman of Hopkinsville unresponsive on scene with a gunshot wound to the chest. CPR was performed and Freeman was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he would die of his injuries.
Officers were able to determine that Leavell was involved in the shooting and was allegedly in possession of a handgun that had been reported stolen. During an interview with officers, Leavell allegedly admitted to shooting Freeman.
