Former HHS band director arrested on rape, sodomy charges

The former band director at Hopkinsville High School was arrested Wednesday afternoon for alleged sexual misconduct with a female student who was also a juvenile.

Thirty-year-old Jordan Seth Peveler of Hopkinville was booked in the Christian County Jail on charges of third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

The Hopkinsville Police Department investigated and an arrest warrant says the alleged incidents happened in the summer of 2017.

Peveler allegedly provided marijuana to a 16-year old female band member at his home during the first incident and then had her perform a sex act on him after she was under the influence. In the second incident, Peveler allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl at his home after she had turned 17 years old.

The warrant notes that Peveler was in a position of authority or special trust over the alleged victim during each instance.

Christian County Public School System spokesperson John Rittenhouse confirmed Peveler is no longer employed by the district, but declined to further comment on the investigation.

Peveler was appointed Director of Bands for Hopkinsville High School in 2014, according to the school’s website, which says his responsibilities included directing the Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, and 6th grade bands at South Christian and Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary Schools.

He was being held on a $10,000 cash only bond.
