Former Franklin police officer pleads guilty to federal obstruction charge

A former Franklin police officer entered a guilty plea in Federal Court this week to charges she obstructed an investigation.

Court officials say 43-year old Vickie Kristiansen of Franklin participated in a local drug task force while employed with the Franklin Police Department. She became aware federal authorities were conducting an investigation into a doctor identified in a news release as “Dr. John Doe.” The investigation was regarding unlawful prescription of controlled substances at his practice.

In February of 2013, Kristiansen met with the doctor and notified him he was under investigation and that there would be undercover attempts to obtain controlled substances at his office. She advised him to not accept new patients and to shred documents and avoid putting trash outside until the day of pickup.

She promised the doctor she would let him know if she heard of additional developments, but warned him to keep the conversation private as it could cost her her job.

Her attempts were thwarted when the doctor was federally charged in 2015.

Kristiansen is charged with conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.
